Family Cottages Holiday Guide

About Cottage Holidays - Holiday Companies

Family Cottage Holidays

Cottage holidays are a great option for a family holiday. You have the freedom to come and go as you please and there are no set itineraries or meal times to keep to. If you have a large family or want to holiday with friends or grandparents, then you will have no problem finding something large enough to meet your needs.

Although there are no activities laid on, cottage holidays offer an excellent base for an active family holiday. Hiking and biking are two of the most popular activities which you can enjoy. Just take your boots or bikes and often you will be able to walk or bike straight from your front door. Or choose a seaside location if watersports appeal.

Types of Cottage Holiday

In the UK, there are thousands of cottages available for holiday hire. They are often set in the most stunning of locations near to the coast, mountains or countryside. Cottage styles can range from traditional to contemporary. There are small cottages sleeping just 2 people and larger manor houses and farmhouses sleeping over 10 people.

Age Ranges

There are no minimum ages for a cottage holiday. They are a perfect option for families with children of all ages.

Choosing Your Cottage
These are some things to think about before you book your cottage:
>

Location – Which region do you wish to visit

> Sleeping Capacity - The maximum number of people that can be accommodated will be specified in the cottage details. Read the cottage details thoroughly to check on the number of bedrooms available and whether they are twin, double, single or bunk bedrooms. Check whether some people would be sleeping on sofa beds in the lounge if you fill the cottage to capacity. If this is the case, you may wish to choose a cottage that sleeps more people than you need to ensure that everyone has a proper bed.
> Other Facitilies – Some cottages offer facilities such as indoor swimming pools, hot tubs, games rooms and play areas.

To help you to find your perfect cottage, many of the holiday cottage companies provide the facility to search online for holiday cottages to meet your requirements.

Equipment Provided

Cottages usually have fully equipped kitchens with oven, fridge, microwave, cooking utensils, crockery etc. Most have a colour television, video recorder and radio/CD player. A selection of board games and books is often available. Most have gardens along with garden furniture and often a barbeque.

Cots (often travel cots) and high chairs can often be provided and this is usually specified in the description of the cottage in the brochure or on the website..
